Quickly shunned and forgotten, we turn our eyes from these places to concentrate on the ever growing world around us and it becomes easy to dismiss the history that lies beyond their fractured doors. Some stories are happy, some sad and some are even a bit disturbing but it’s within these very places where I am content to wander. I will always take the chance to venture off the beaten path for as I stand in the shadows of these decaying foundations, I look upon their ominous exteriors eager to learn from the knowledge that they hold. And because lessons don’t always come from ink on paper, I disappear inside reminded that the most important lesson to be learned is that something is lost when you decide to judge a book by its cover.

I’m a 37 year old mother of five. Writing has been my passion since I was a very young child. I followed my dreams, never gave up and watched as the door to opportunity opened for me with a writing position for an independent magazine in 2011. Since taking that position my writing has expanded and I have been continually blessed with amazing opportunities. I’ve yet to see just where this road is leading me but I’m loving every moment along the way and look to my future with excitement for the things that have yet to come.

Olivia, this is such a powerful piece, the images complete stories within themselves. I, too, am drawn to such places, yearning to understand the lives that occupied the space. The asylum piece is haunting and beautiful… Thanks for sharing! And, thank you, Ashley for bringing this author to us!

I completely agree with your comments on Olivia’s piece and am so glad you enjoyed it, too! The photos work well to bring another depth to her writing. It is interesting to see them and to think about the lives left behind there.

Oh, it’s no problem at all – I’ve enjoyed working with you on this and am so glad you offered to contribute your writing! Part of the reason I began this blog was to meet other writers and artists, so this has been a blast. :]
