Chaos and Words

Rock Bottom Beginning

Posted on: February 11, 2013

So you’ve reached rock bottom. This place is different for everyone, but in the basics – you may feel depressed, broken, defeated. But – it is not over. This is not where you’re meant to be forever, and you will get past whatever hurdles stand in your way, though they may be many. Things happen out of our control (sometimes within our control as well), so the best we can do is lift ourselves up. We must find something to inspire us, to get us moving again. We are gifted with new days that bring new light. So we start over. There’s no shame in doing so, and anyone who tells you differently doesn’t deserve a place in your life.

What does starting over mean? It could be going back to school, starting a new career, gaining new employment, beginning a new relationship (or leaving a current one). Whatever the case may be, remember that you can do it. All the strength you need rests within you, and no, it isn’t meant to be easy. The road is difficult, and the lessons are hard. But this is where you can spring up and be the ‘you’ you desire. It’s there. Reach for it, embrace it, nourish it.

I know a lot of this is easier said than done, and I am by no means saying it’s as simple as a motivational talk. But what I am saying is to not give up. You deserve more than that. It’s not about anyone else. This is your life, and how you want to lead it is entirely up to you. We may not always get to where we want to be right away, but know that each hardship, each friendship, each experience is creating and testing your character. Treat it with respect – treat yourself with respect.

This is where a new chapter begins. Rock bottom is painful, but as someone I know has said, it is also something to stand upon. This is the first step in a new direction. The rest is whatever you want it to be.
